Who Is Harold Gunn
  • Harold has been named a “Broadcast Pioneer” by the Texas Association of Broadcasters and is a 2009 inductee into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame in addition to many regional and national awards for journalism.

  • In 2010 Harold was honored by the Texas Auto Writers Association when they named their scholarship program The Harold Gunn Scholarship for Journalism.

  • Writer, producer and talent for thousands of radio and television commercials during a career spanning over forty-five years.

  • Writer, producer, director and talent on regular television programming since 1970, including the longest running movie host program in the history of Houston television and with the highest audience rating in the nation, “Captain Harold’s Theatre of the Sky.” The city’s first and only variety show shot entirely on location, “Standing Room Only;” the first local program shot internationally, “Houston Monthly;” and created and produced the business program “DBA”. Gunn has produced programming regionally, nationally, and for syndication.

  • Produced, promoted, advertised and participated in a vast number of charity and commercial events such as: golf tournaments, chili cook-offs, barbecue cook-offs, hot air balloon contests, air shows, sporting clays competitions, quick draw contests and beauty pageants. Examples: The Houston Championship Chili Cook-off for ten years, The World Championship Barbecue Cook-Off at the Astrodome for ten years, the World Championship Chili Cook-Off in Terlingua, Texas for three years, The Answer Foundation Sporting Clays Classic and co-created what has become the Miss Hawaiian Tropic Beauty Pageant internationally.
